MiLB Prospect Rankings: Middle Infield

It won’t be long until fantasy teams are oozing Machado

Due to the number of recent promotions (Dustin Ackley, Jason Kipnis, Dee Gordon, Jemile Weeks, Jose Altuve, Johnny Giavotella and Chase D’Arnaud) most of the top middle infield prospects are in the Low Minors. The youngest top prospects are usually shortstops. This position also has the highest percentage of international players. There is a significant drop-off in talent around #40 in my 2B/SS rankings. With that being said, you could argue that any 2B/SS prospect ranked in in the #26-#39 range should have been ranked in the Top 25. But these are my rankings, so here is my Top 25:

I play in a 12-team dynasty league in which every team gets to keep 65 Minor League or undrafted prospects. That’s 780 prospects owned at all times. Yeah, I know. Scouting the MLB Draft and Minor Leagues is a year-round exercise. The specific metrics I use are power (HR/SLG), hitting (AVG/OBP), speed (SB), defense, age, draft position, level of competition faced in ’11, Baseball America ranking, and ranking. My rankings are for fantasy baseball purposes, so I factor in defense only if I believe it will hinder a prospect’s progress, or force him to change positions. Without further ado…
