Team Defense (DEF) Recommendations

Week Eight Recommendations
1 – Cleveland Browns @KC

Gucci Mane should do color-commentary on this matchup, because it has all the makings of a trap game. Facing a 7-0 team on the road seems like an impossible task for the Browns, but remember that they really have nothing to play for, and this game would essentially be their Super Bowl this season if they can pull off the upset. As good as Kansas City has been, they are a pretty easy team to game-plan against. Alex Smith has been playing scared, especially lately (he’s been scrambling out of the pocket more and has not even looked downfield in the last few weeks). The Browns have to focus their efforts on stopping Jamaal Charles, and with RBs averaging a 3.45 YPC against them, they surely have the personnel capable of zeroing in on the star back. Granted, Charles will still get his yards (even if it has to be through the air), but if they can contain Charles and force Smith to try to beat them with his arm, mistakes will be made. Add in the fact that Travis Benjamin can rip off a special teams score at any moment, and you have yourself the makings of a low-scoring, fantasy-friendly matchup for Cleveland. If I were playing in a knockout/survivor pool, I wouldn’t touch KC this week.

2 – New York Jets @CIN

The Jets are starting to believe that they are an elite defensive unit. I wouldn’t go that far myself, but with burgeoning young defensive stars like Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson, they are certainly playing like a team that believes they can shut down any offense. Fresh off an upset over the New England Patriots, the Jets head to Cincy in the thick of the AFC Wild Card race. Even though their secondary is a bit of a weak spot, I expect the Jets DEF to continue to get pressure on the QB in order to mask their secondary shortcomings.
