Sometimes such things happen… Have you seen a situation in football, when a player shoots towards the goal and his shot is about to find the net, but there is his teammate in an offside position and the ball unfortunately hits the player, who is behind the last defender. To me, that should be an exclusion of the offside rule. Because this is a specific situation, which prejudices the attacking team. However, the referee is obligated to give the offside, no matter whether the player, who is in an offside position is detaining the defenders and the goalkeeper.
I saw such a situation a couple of hours ago, when I watched the game between Sydney against Melbourne City. A player from the hosts took a shot. The ball went pass all the defenders and the goalkeeper, but there was his teammate behind all the people in the box. Actually, he wasn’t affecting anything, but the ball hit him and found the net. Eventually, the referee disallowed the goal and the guests opened the score a few minutes later…
To continue with, another interesting situation is when the referee blows his final whistle, when a team has just made a good goal-scoring opportunity. I have seen it a million times. Sometimes the referee decides not to allow the taking of a corner. I think this is very harmful to the attacking team. So, I think the football association need to add some new rules to prevent such things happen!
In conclusion, the last thing I want to talk about is the new rule for the red card, when the defender causes foul, when he is the last from his team. There is not an accurate criteria! I’ve seen similar situations, in which a different referee shows different card! The football association should also work on it!
